Barrett Summer Scholars provides academically talented and motivated high school students with the opportunity to experience college firsthand and prepare for enrollment and success at Arizona State University and Barrett, the Honors College. Students live on campus, engage in college-level coursework and participate in a community of peers from across the state.
For Barrett Summer Scholars, the College of Health Solutions offers an elective course to 10th grade students on ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus. The course, Integrated Approaches to Health Care, introduces students to a variety of health care disciplines and settings. Students tour medical facilities, learn from guest lecturers and participate in experiential learning through hands-on activities. Current and futuristic concepts of health care are introduced, as well as multiple health care professions. By the end of the course, students will appreciate the diverse and changing nature of the health care system and the professions within it.
