Stakeholder Meeting
April 2026
Marisa Domino, Executive Director of CHiR, opened the meeting with highlights from the center’s projects and initiatives over the last year. CHiR has had 10 recent and ongoing projects led by faculty in the College of Health Solutions, 4 other projects across ASU, and 11 projects with local health community partners. CHiR is appearing more at local and national events to present findings from studies and meet individuals and organizations who share our mission to advance health care and improve health outcomes in Arizona and beyond.
Our meeting included presentations on:
- engaging Arizona’s health ecosystem in a new model of medical education by Dean Sarah “Holly” Hollingsworth Lisanby, Founding Dean and Foundation Professor of the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering;
- the demographics, comorbidities and social determinants of health associated with migraine and headache diagnoses by Juliana VanderPluym, Associate Professor of Neurology and Consultant in the Division of Headache at Mayo Clinic;
- trends in breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening by Gloria Coronado, Professor of Public Health and Director of the Center for Health Disparities Research at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health; and
- reporting on health measures from six chronically underserved and under-resourced areas of South Phoenix as part of a broader effort to address their health challenges by Deborah Williams, Director of Affinity Networks & Translational Teams and Clinical Assistant Professor in the ASU College of Health Solutions, and Michael Jobin, ASU Doctoral Student in Population Health.
CHiR is especially excited about working with the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering in the “shared frontier” that Dean Lisanby described where medicine and technology overlap with health data and analytics with our stakeholders engaged as well. Our meeting concluded with special honors to Anita Murcko, MD, Clinical Associate Professor in the College of Health Solutions, who is retiring from ASU in May 2026. She has been an amazing resident clinician, research partner, consultant and champion of CHiR in the Arizona health sector since our center was established. We anticipate continued connection with Dr. Murcko in her next endeavor.
In addition to ASU units, the following organizations were represented at our meeting: Arizona Criminal Justice Commission, Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, El Rio Community Health Center, Maricopa County Department of Public Health, Mayo Clinic, Mountain Park Health Center, and Vitalyst Health Foundation. Stakeholder meetings are held in the fall and spring semesters. To be added to the invite list or for more information, contact [email protected].
