CHiR Student involvement process

The Center for Health Information and Research considers student-involvement in CHiR activities as central to its mission. Students bring myriad skills and rich backgrounds to CHiR activities and benefit from exposure to the tools, resources, and lines of inquiry in a real-world setting. We are fortunate to receive many more inquiries from students interested in being involved in CHiR than we can effectively incorporate. In order to increase transparency and ensure a positive experience with student participation, we have formalized the student involvement process.

Positions for student participation

If you are interested in a paid or unpaid position, please submit an interest form. We prefer students who have the following demonstrated proficiencies:

  • Programming skills in SAS, SQL, Python, Stata, or R
  • Prior experience using health care claims and encounter Data visualization using Tableau or similar packages
  • Writing and communication skills
  • Organizational or project management skills

All completed interest forms will be reviewed by CHiR faculty and staff. Candidates will be encouraged to apply for a position based on a match of interest to current projects as well as on skills students have prior to joining CHiR.
