Elite Endurance Competition and Acute Dehydration: Field Observations from World Championships Tokyo 2025
This presentation will highlight preliminary findings from a field-based study conducted during the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025, examining heat-acclimatization practices, hydration behaviors and sweat sodium losses among elite endurance athletes. Particular emphasis will be placed on the substantial interindividual variability observed in sweat sodium concentration and hydration status, and how these differences influence athlete preparation, recovery and performance in hot environments. Practical implications for individualized heat and hydration strategies will be discussed.
