Students with mentors have better outcomes in school and in their careers, according to research from the National Institutes of Health, but finding a mentor isn’t always easy. To assist you, the College of Health Solutions has established a program to pair pre-health students with current students studying the health professions, as well as working health professionals.
Over the past seven years, the College of Health Solutions has developed a collaborative mentoring program spearheaded by medical and health professional students at A.T. Still University, Creighton University School of Medicine, Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, Midwestern University, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, and University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson.
Current ASU students will be selected for one-on-one mentoring with a medical (allopathic or osteopathic) or health professional (physical therapy, physician assistant, occupational therapy and pharmacy) student during the spring semester. Competitive applicants to the program will have at least 45 credit hours earned and have a minimum overall and science GPA of 3.0. Students will be matched with mentors according to the availability of mentor candidates who apply to this program; there is no guarantee of mentor pairing for anyone who applies to this program.
In a mentorship, an experienced person assists another in developing specific skills and knowledge to support professional growth. The ASU Pre-Health Medical Mentoring Program is not intended to provide shadowing or clinical experiences.
