Afternoon breakout sessions

Methods sessions

Chair: Stephanie Marita Carpenter, assistant professor, College of Health Solutions

Digital health interventions have the unprecedented potential to provide real-time intervention support in moments when people are most in need. The Emerging Methods session will highlight novel advances in tools to optimize digital just-in-time interventions that integrate multi-modal data from self-report and sensors (e.g., wearables, smartphones) to deliver the right intervention at the right time. We welcome you to join experts in intervention development and implementation science to discuss the current state of the science, opportunities and challenges, and cutting-edge future directions.

Panelists:

  • Matthew Buman, director and professor, College of Health Solutions
  • Rodney Joseph, associate professor, Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation

Chair: Hassan Ghasemzadeh, associate professor, College of Health Solutions

The AI panel will delve into the latest advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning, exploring how emerging technologies are transforming health care delivery, patient outcomes and clinical practices through automated and objective health monitoring, disease diagnosis, health assessment and intervention delivery. Experts will address the technical challenges involved in designing AI-driven solutions for health care, such as data interoperability, model accuracy and integration with existing systems. The conversation will also cover the barriers to AI adoption in health care, including regulatory hurdles, privacy concerns and the need for robust ethical frameworks. Additionally, the panel will examine the role of foundational models, such as large language models, in revolutionizing health care applications, from diagnostics to personalized treatment plans, while also considering the implications for scalability and trust in AI systems within the health care ecosystem.

Panelists:

Roundtable discussion

Chair: Sonia Vega-López, assistant dean and professor, College of Health Solutions

Some of the most significant advancements in health in recent decades have been possible through the incorporation of digital technologies in health promotion and health care. However, as digital health becomes more prevalent, ensuring access among the most vulnerable members of our communities is critical. This session will be an opportunity for a panel of experts to discuss considerations to ensure that the use of health technology contributes to reducing health disparities rather than exacerbating the digital divide and health inequities.

Discussants:

  • Maissa Khatib, research scholar, College of Health Solutions
  • Beza Merid, assistant professor, School for the Future of Innovation in Society, College of Global Futures
  • Krystal Tsotsie, assistant professor, School of Life Sciences, The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
