Literacy Rich Center and Classroom Environments ECHO

Program goal

As a result of completing this course, participants will list the materials and describe the physical arrangement of their classroom/center that would create a literacy rich classroom/center for their children. Further, they will transform their environments to be more literacy rich than prior to the course.

About the Literacy Rich Center and Classroom Environments ECHO

This ECHO series is based on the First Book Initiative: A Commitment to Building Literacy Rich Classrooms. First Book partnered with Susan Neuman, an early childhood literacy expert and researcher, to develop a new tool that provides educators with a resource to evaluate and improve the quality and equity of their classroom libraries.

Using fun activities and many examples, your ECHO hub team will work with you to increase the literacy richness of your classroom or center. Together with other ECHO participants, you will learn about free resources for building your class library, how to encourage children to engage in literacy activities, and how your colleagues in other programs solve literacy challenges that you face.

Who should attend?

Designed for early childhood professionals working directly with preschoolers in center-based childcare centers and preschool settings.
