The open source, community driven platform Drools (currently mantained by JBoss), is evolving from a business rule engine into a hybrid reasoning platform, capable of processing different types of knowledge in a variety of formats. In addition to its basic production rule, complex event processing (e.g. useful for online patient monitoring) and workflow (e.g. useful for guideline modelling and execution) capabilities, I have been working on the integration of non-monotoning and non-boolean reasoning (e.g. useful for diagnostic purposes in presence of uncertainty), semantic reasoning and sub-symbolic reasoning (e.g. the integration of predictive models)
