Description:

In the Pediatric Amplification Laboratory, the effects of hearing loss on children's ability to perform auditory tasks that vary in cognitive demand are being examined. These tasks represent skills that grade school children need in order to achieve academically and socially. These skills include auditory memory, divided attention, and learning. Two lines of research are currently underway. First, the effects of age and degree of hearing loss are being determined. Second, amplification with advanced signal processing is being evaluated to identify features that optimize performance. This area of research has the potential to be expanded to older children (junior high, high school, college), bilingual children, and children with attention deficits.
