About Us

The Healthy Lifestyles Research Center (HLRC) at Arizona State University’s College of Health Solutions is a center of excellence for the study and promotion of healthy lifestyles in an effort to reduce the burden of chronic diseases of today. The efforts of the HLRC encompass basic science, clinical, behavioral and community research, the promotion of physical activity and healthy eating, the integration of transdisciplinary efforts, and the training of graduate students and fellows.

Our Initiatives

  • Conduct use-inspired research to include individual and community-level behavioral modifications as well as novel therapies to prevent against and improve recovery from cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and cancer
  • Facilitate exercise, nutrition and public health prevention-based strategies to sustain health throughout the lifespan
  • Foster transdisciplinary health-outcomes research and collaboration to better identify new health challenges and improve the translation of research to community and clinical settings
  • Disseminate research to provide solutions for complex health challenges
  • Empower trainees to become leaders in health research through education and training
  • Service endeavors that connect the community with health resources and empower healthy lifestyles 

Annual Building Healthy Lifestyles Conference

The Annual Building Healthy Lifestyles Conference features internationally recognized experts from within and outside the Arizona State University community who present cutting edge research and fresh perspectives on a number of "hot" exercise sceince and nutrition topics. The conference provides opportunities for experts and students to network and discuss the latest research. This conference is organized by graduate students in the interdisciplinary Exercise and Nutrition Sciences doctoral program within the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion, under the supervision of conference co-chairs, professors Glenn Gaesser and Siddhartha Angadi.
