Quality Research

Biomedical informatics is the interdisciplinary field that focuses on the effective uses of biomedical data, information, and knowledge to improve patient care and health sciences research. Research in biomedical informatics promotes collaborations among computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, biologists, clinicians and decision scientists.

The domain encompasses the five major sub-fields of:

The Department of Biomedical Informatics at Arizona State University is supported by unique collaborations with Mayo ClinicBanner HealthBarrow Neurological Institute, and The University of Arizona College of Medicine.  These collaborations lead to advancements in information technology, data and knowledge management and analysis methodologies to improve our understanding of many aspects of health care. The goal of this research is to enhance patient care and overall human health by expediting the process of transferring basic biomedical research to clinical use effectively and safely.
