The Recreation and Tourism Management Departments primary focus is the professional and personal growth of its students. Faculty, through course offerings and informal interactions with students, emphasize the development of problem-solving and integrative thinking skills. Additionally, the curriculum is built on the concept of providing students with every opportunity possible to network with professionals and to engage in experiential learning opportunities, including a semester-long internship. We look forward to helping you achieve your career objective. We also look forward to joining you in your efforts to achieve an excellent liberal and professional education, and a rewarding career in this field.

March 20 was a first for the Recreation and Tourism Department as well as Arizona. RTM sponsored the Inaugural Student/Professional Learning Day Conference on the ASU West campus. Approximately 50 professional practitioners in the fields of recreation, parks, event management, meeting planning, and therapeutic recreation joined ranks with community college, undergraduate and graduate students studying in these areas in career interest. After greetings by Dean John Hepburn, the attendees participated in several educational break-out sessions including topics on career development and future perspectives in the fields of interest. The day concluded with a rousing presentation from Jeff Williamson, President of the Arizona Zoological Society. Jeff is a friend of Richard Louv and an active supporter of "Connecting Children with Nature."
Participants praised this inaugural effort - the only one of its kind in Arizona affecting professionals and students in the listed fields of interest. Plans are underway for the second edition next year. Attendance is expected to generate 200 participants.
